Trails & Recreation

Trails & Recreation Contact:  Susan Auer susra@verizon.net

The NJQHA has a very active trail/pleasure ride contingent.  We generally hold 4 all breed charity rides each year at various locations to benefit 4 compelling charities.  These rides are open to the public.  The rides include a hot breakfast, door prizes, a silent auction and our famous hot and hearty meal following the ride!

Many thanks to all of our volunteers without whom these rides would not be possible!

NEW JERSEY QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION LUSSCROFT FARM
OVERNIGHT CHARITY TRAIL RIDE - Sept 13 & 14, 2008

In 1914, James Turner, a Montclair stockbroker, invested $500,000 to invent Lusscroft into a model dairy farm. Lusscroft is made up of 578 acres contained within High Point State Park property. Twenty-three buildings are still on the property, the Turner Mansion, the managers dwelling, the spectacular Outlook Lodge, dairy barn and farm structures. The land includes field, pastures, ponds and woodlands.

This is the perfect ride to bring your non-riding wife/husband or buddy. The Farm is located within High Point State Park, so non-riding participants can rest, read, hike or bike while we ride. A wine and cheese will be held at the Turner Mansion Saturday afternoon, with dinner at The Homestead Restaurant in Sparta. Stalls are available, you may camp or stay at a local motel. Please contact Susan Auer at susra@verizon.net or 908-418-5923 for further information.

NJQHA ALL BREED CHARITY RIDE RECAP
Washington Crossing State Park June 22, 2008

The day started with a threat of thunderstorms…however “It never rains on a QH Ride” prevailed. Park Superintendent Dave Donnelly stopped to give us a weather report…rain to the north, rain to the south, but not a drop on our ride! A beautiful breeze kept the flies away and wonderful breaks of sunshine brightened our spirits. 70 people attended the event with 55 horses participating in the trail ride. We rode from Washington Crossing State Park to the top of Baldpate Mountain where we were able to see the Delaware River winding between NJ and PA. Members of the American Mustang & Burro Association attended from as far away as Connecticut. Several Mustangs trained by Robin Rivello, NJ State Coordinator for the AMBA took part in the ride, which lasted about 3 hours. A BBQ feast consisting of ribs, pulled pork, bbq brisket, chicken and all the fixins was arranged by Chris Felcetto. As in the past, the food was outstanding and one of our claims to fame. The weather, scenery, terrain and facility were outstanding. All of these factors made this a wonderful ride.
